This wonderful news comes to us from Mysore, India.
The story of a Mysore man who took his 70-year-old mother on a pilgrimage spanning over 48 thousand kilometers on his Bajaj Chetak scooter has resonated with the internet and also businessman Anand Mahindra.
This morning, Manoj Kumar, CEO of Naandi Foundation shared the incredible story of D Krishna Kumar’s journey on Twitter.
According to the video that was shared by Manoj Kumar, D Krishna Kumar left his job to travel with his mother on his 20-year-old Bajaj Chetak scooter. The reason was that his mother Choodarthna was living alone in Mysore, Karnataka and told him that she wanted to see Hampi.
Mr. Kumar said that ” In the joint family system, my mother’s role was confined to the kitchen until the death of my father. I decided that my mother deserves not the only quality time from her only son, but also a dignified life for all the sacrifices she has made.”
Krishna Kumar decided to take his mother, who has hardly stepped out of her town, on a unique pilgrimage across the country.
According to sources, Krishna Kumar has traveled for seven months with his mother riding pillion on his scooter. He had left his job to take his mother on the pilgrimage in January last year, and the two of them have covered many holy places across India. Instead of staying at hotels the two of them stayed at mutts across the country and carried their essentials on the scooter during this amazing journey.
This touching story of D Krishna Kumar and his mother caught the attention of Anand Mahindra and he took to Twitter this morning offering to gift Mr. Kumar with a car.
Mr. Anand Mahindra said, “ A beautiful story. About the love for a mother but also about the love for a country. If you can connect me to him, I’d like to personally gift him a Mahindra KUV 100 NXT so he can drive his mother in a car on their next journey.”
