This wonderful news comes to us from Brazil.
It sometimes so happens that animals develop a stronger bond than what human can do. We have seen the faithfulness of many breeds of dogs but today you will come to know about the special bond that a penguin developed with a fisherman from Brazil.
Joao Pereira de Souza who resides in an island near Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is a part time fisherman. 71 year old Joao who is a retired bricklayer, saved the life of Din Din the penguin back in the year 2011 and could not believe his eyes when the penguin came back to meet him.
This Magellanic penguin had his body and feathers covered in oil and was lying in a local beach in Joao’s village. Joao picked him up and got his body as well feathers rid of all the oil. He gave him a nutritious diet and took immense care for about a week. Naming it Din Din, Joao tried to release the penguin in the wild but it was not in a mood to leave. He had already sort of developed a bond with his savior.
Joao then said, “He stayed with me for 11 months and then, just after he changed his coat with new feathers, he disappeared.” To Joao’s surprise, Din Din came back to the same beach after few months, recognized him fishing and followed him home after which he stayed with him for the rest of the year.
This pattern has been continuing every year where Din Din spends around seven to eight months with Joao and then leaves only to come back next year. It is speculated that the penguin breeds 2500 miles away on the Patagonia coasts of Argentina and Chile.
Joao also said that Din Din is becoming more affectionate towards him with every passing year. He hates it when anyone else touches him. It is just Joao who can feed him make him bath and cuddle with him. It is truly a heartwarming human-wildlife love story that is no less than a fairy tale. Joao loves Din Din like a father loves his child and we wish the bond continues forever.
