This inspiring news comes to us from Zimbabwe.
An 11-year-old schoolgirl in Zimbabwe has wrestled with a large crocodile. She did this by jumping on to the back of the reptile and gouging the crocodile’s eyes so that the reptile would be forced to lose its grip on her friend.
According to reports, Latoya Muwani, a 9-year-old girl was attacked by the crocodile while she was swimming with her friends in Sinderela village. Hearing the terrified screams, her friend Rebecca Munkombwe investigated.
When Rebecca saw the situation, she jumped on the back of the crocodile as the reptile was pulling Latoya even as she kept screaming. Rebecca said later that she was the eldest of all the children who were swimming and that prompted her to come to the rescue.
The crocodile had grabbed Latoya by her hand and leg. Rebecca noticed this and began wrestling and gouging its eyes till the crocodile’s grip on Latoya was released.
Rebecca was not injured in this escapade but Latoya was taken to a hospital for treatment. Rebecca says, “Once Latoya was free, I swam with her to the banks. The crocodile did not attack us again.”
A nurse at the hospital told newspersons that Latoya sustained mild injuries.
Fortune Muwani, Latoya’s father said “I am grateful to God. Latoya is recovering well and we expect her to be discharged soon.”
Had it not been for the watchful and alert Rebecca, Latoya may well have ended up as food for the rogue crocodile. Rebecca must also be praised for doing what few others would have dared to do. Her act of jumping on top of the crocodile and gouging its eyes has gained her a lot of praise in her village.
