This wonderful news comes to us from Jamaica.
Jamaican fishermen collected a huge 11, 336 pounds of trash from the surface of the sea during this year’s Kingston Harbour Trash Tournament.
This tournament does not have an entrance fee and all are welcome. The tournament is the brainchild of sport fishing enthusiast Brandon McKoy.
In a conversation, McKoy said that he never imagined the huge amount of participation and also the amount of trash they managed to collect. He believes that the trash tournaments are helping the environment but are not the final solution. He believes that the solution lies in preventing the trash from ending up in the seas in the first place.
