A 17-Year-Old Invents ‘Ear Pressure Reducing Tool’ To Alleviate Mask Wearing Pain

This news comes to us from West Bengal, India.

Corona Virus has affected many lives and has destroyed the peace of the whole world. Everyone is worried about the consequences of the pandemic and is trying to reach a solution that will reduce or eliminate the effects of the Corona virus. One such innovation is created by a 17-year-old, Digantika Bose who lives in Purba Burdwan District of West Bengal and is a student of Vidyasagar Smriti Vidyamandir Memari. She has invented the ‘ear pressure reduction tool’ that will reduce ear pressure while wearing the mask. She felt the need for this tool after observing the struggle of the frontline workers in particular during this pandemic. For this invention, she has recently bragged the National Science Competition Award. She has always been inclined towards various innovations that will give society quick solutions from day to day problems at a reasonable price.

The tool is in the form of a headband that fits at the back of the head thereby reducing ear pressure while draping the face mask. It is like a facemask extender that connects the ear straps and extends them to wrap around the back of one’s head instead. Digantika spoke about her invention and said, “Health workers, police, journalists, sanitisation workers, and many others have to wear face masks for long periods of time. This triggers constant pressure and pain behind the ears. I have designed these bands using discarded plastic or flexible board which costs around 2 Rs to 3 Rs. Anyone can craft this tool.”

Digantika has been awarded Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Ignited Mind Children Creativity and Innovation Awards 2020. She loves to make researches and is engaged with five other special research works and prototypes related to Covid19. Her invention includes an ‘Air Providing and Virus Destroying Mask’ that will help fight against the pandemic at a low cost.

Sudipta Bose, Digantika’s father is proud of her inventions and expressed his happiness saying, “It’s a pride to be the father of Digantika. I feel proud and extremely overwhelmed to receive such responses for her works, from people. She loves to be engaged with her research works.” Her inventions are worth praising and are small steps towards reducing the negative effects of the corona virus.

We hope to see more inventions from these young generations so that the world becomes a normal and happy place to stay.
