Zalando Boss Quits Job To Prioritize Wife’s Career

This wonderful news comes to us from Germany.

Rubin Ritter, the chief executive of Europe’s largest online fashion site, Zalando, has announced to quit his job saying his wife’s professional ambitions should take priority. He has been the co-chief executive of Zalando since 2010. This company had begun its set-up as a Berlin-based 12 years ago and now has 36 million customers. It has recorded revenue of 6.5bn Euros last year. Although his contract would have ended in 2023, he will quit his job in the month of May.

Mr. Ritter said, “My wife and I have agreed that for the coming years, her professional ambitions should take priority.” He further added, “I want to devote more time to my growing family. After more than 11 amazing years where Zalando has been my priority, I feel that it is time to give my life a new direction.”

The company refused to name Mr. Ritter’s wife and her occupation but it said that the couple had a child and were expecting another in early 2021. He earned 6.8m Euros in 2019 and 20.2m Euros in 2018 which made him one of the highest-paid executives of Germany.

Zalando has no women sit on its management board and its gender pay gap is 22% in favour of men which is slightly wider than the national average in Germany. However, in November the retailer was progressing towards its goal of achieving balanced representation in its top tiers of management by 2023. To this Mr. Ritter said, “While transformation takes time, and we are still at the beginning of our journey, our progress indicates that we are moving in the right direction.”

Mr. Ritter has been in charge of strategy and communications on the three-way management team, but he was also finance chief until last year. Another co-chief executive, Mr. Robert Gentz said, “When we started to ship the first shoes to our customers from the basement of our office, we did not know where the journey would lead us.” He further exclaimed, “It is impossible to overstate Rubin’s impact on Zalando’s success.”

Zalando’s customers are spread across 17 countries and sell accessories and beauty products alongside fashion.

This thinking of Mr. Ritter of giving priority to his wife and family is really appreciable and must be taken as a good attitude towards imparting equality among people. This must be followed by every man to give equal respect to his woman.
